ReplyDeleteAfter ceremoniy of twelve, the children will belong to another group. and they will be gotten a assignment. Something that used to be for the children will be changed. No more volunteer and recreation hours for them. They are going to prepare their future through the assignment. Most of children will get ceremony of twelve are apprehensive that assignment. or another children are maybe eagar.

ReplyDeleteIn this novel, twelve children have their job.
And they learn to more about job to spend many time with someone who is working in position, they received. I think it is very hard to children whose age is twelve. Because, I think twelve is too young to be responsible they
career. So, I'm very pity to they have their mission, though they are younger than me.
When children are going to twelve, they will take more responsabilities like Jonas' father did. In the Ceremony for the Ones is assignment their future and their major and how the child will continue helping the community. Children will change their play's group also they will beguin to development in an especific work.
ReplyDeleteThere is the last of the Ceremonies when the children are going to turn 12 years old.The Elders would be selecting Assignment for every children who is twelve years old. After twelve,age isn't important.Children will start to prepare for adult life and train them receive in their Assignment.Everyone will be their new group of twelve and don't spend a lot time to play.

when jonas will be twelve unlike his father,he did not know what will be his assignment but i think he will probably be very difficult for him to adapt with the new group that he would belong to.

ReplyDeleteI read a book about the giver. Finally,Jonas was impressed by the things Benjamin had achieved. So I think that after 12 years old, They will have a chance assignment with friends or groups in order to improve his ability.

Anyway if I were in the Committee of Elder I will give assignment as helper at the house of old to him. Since I have only one clue about his assignment. In chapter 4, Jonas spend his volunteer time doing to help olders. Even though in chapter 3 he also spend time at recreation area, but I couldn't catch what does he doing at there.
Also I want to know Katerine's opinion, though it is her question.

ReplyDeleteIf I'm one of olders committee member I'll suggest to the committe to give to jonas the assignment of pilot like her mother had suggested to him in this part of the book.Please review page:41, location: top of the page, sentence:"And this year you get your assignment,"she sais to jonas in an excited voice."I hope you get pilot.And that you take me flying. why is it mine too? Because if you come back to page:1,location middle of the page,sentence:"at first,he had been only fascinated.he had never seen aircraft so close,for it was against the rules for pilots to fly over the community. I know that he does not want pilot as he said in page:41,middle of the page.Sentence:"I don't want pilot anyway.if i get pilot i'll put in an appeal" responded to his mother.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion is better for him to take a position like his father, I want him to be nurturer too…. Because I thinks he know, like he saw his father work.
In my opinion if I could be in the Committee of Elves give to Jonas something Assignments related with his level of observation, how the book tell in page 15: “ During the past year he had been aware of increasing level of observation” . His mother wants that his assignment been pilot and they could travel a lot. Jonas is special. His eyes are pale, solemn, knowing eyes. His assignment could not common. He likes to describe and watch what the other people do it. He could be a good adviser for the Committee of Elves; I do not know if this assignment existed but he could take notes and watch to other children when the time of the Ceremony is closer. He could advise about to change some rules like which edge is better to give a bicycle nine, eight, or earlier age. In this “perfect society” where Jonas lives the volunteer hours are very important. Jonas likes to help at the House of Old also in the Childcare Center and the Nurturing Center. I think a good assignment to Jonas could be in a job where him have to work with the community and different kind of persons, not only children, not only old people. Other possibility could be psychologist because it is a good form to keep his relationships and watch them and analyzed their behavior. Jonas has the capacity of describe his feelings and to interpreter of feelings of the other people around him. That form help him to development his observation’s power and would be a good form to help the Community to keep its organization. Or may be a delivery man and it is a good form to do relationship with other people. But I think it is not enough to Jonas and would be a form to waste his power of observation. But probably I need more time watch to him to define his assignment.

Before I read ch.8 , I also guess that Katerin thouht. Jonas help around him and he can maintain reltionship with other people.
I think Jonas has better to have job about helping other or counseling for them.
ReplyDeleteBecause everyone don't have feeling and emotion. But Jonas has those. So, Jonas will give to energy and advise for them. when Jonas help them, he learns more emotion and sentiment for other.

If I in the committee of Elders I think I will help my family to insure the future with them . However , Jonas in novel he assigned to chosse his future , because all children when they in twelve years they finished their volunteer time . they can do like adults doing .

ReplyDeleteasher get the assignment of assistant director of recreation.I think they gave this assignment to asher because he was always playing and he mixed up the words so he made many mistake while speaking"called lapse".So I agee with to committe of elders and i guess that assignment will belong with asher life.
If I am in the Committee of Elders, I will give relative importance assignment to Jonas because he took care of old very well, he was friendly to Asher and he was interested as nurturer. But I don't know what the kind of committee assignment certainly. After the more read a story, I will write a comment about question. now I confuse to meaning of "Giver" and "Receiver"

ReplyDeleteI think Asher is a good boy. He was only child long time. His sister’s name is Philipa, I guess. I am not sure about that, look page 43. May be for that he is a boy some messy and spoiled. I am agree with the Committee, they “did not considered for an instant designating Asher an Instructor of Threes”. His vocabulary is very bad and in that age it is very important acquired good bases. It is very funny the story about his confuses between snack and smack. I think some time I confuse some words and I said other thing completely different that I think. I would like be in the group of Three and learn more vocabulary and pronunciation. Asher is a boy very active and he likes children. He always thinks in play and enjoy. If Asher did not assignment as Assistant Director of Recreation I would like that he could be a teacher in the Gym or to teach how to ride bicycle to the Nines. He has bad memory but for this assignment he only need do the same always. He only could need practice.

ReplyDeleteThe elder give Asher the assignment of assistant director of recreation. Because he had cheeful disposition.But if I was the chief elder I will designated Asher an instructor of language.Because he had experience about how to correct speaking.He stop talking for a period of time but he keep learning.And when he talk again,he can speak with greater precision.So I think he will be a very good teacher and he can help the children when they had same situation.
In my opinion, Asher should have job to control himself. For example, as nurtured man, he should have relax mind and character. And as teacher, when he teaches other people, he may understand his parent mind.

I am not agree with Jiahui. Asher is a boy that all his life had have problem with the vocabulary. For that reason The Chief of Elders does not considerer that posibility. If he could teach good words and good vocabulary, may be his assigment could have been as Assistent of the Threes. But he is very bad in that task.

I like to say my favorite part in chapter 9-11 was when Jonas ask the old Receiver he name.
That is the part:
“Sir?” Jonas said shyly.
“Yes? Do you have a question?”
“It just that I don’t know your name. I thought you were The Receiver, but you say that now I’m
The Receiver. So I don’t know what to call you.”
The man had sat back down in the comfortable upholstered chair. He moved his shoulders around as if to ease away an aching sensation. He seemed terribly weary.
“ Call me The Giver” he told Jonas.
What you guy think about this part?
I would like to receive a bicycle too. Because it is a good gift for the purpose of becoming independent and I could use it as transportation to go to school and it will be fun to ride it with my friends. But in these days a wii could be an excellent gift for anybody, but it may not be as useful as the bicycle in the book. In this society the wii will not provided independence and since this one is a perfect society electronic games probably will create dependency and this will not help the mental state of the Nine group to do a volunteer work with in their community.

If I were in The Giver, and nine years, I want to receive a bicycle. Because the bicycle mean the poeple who is nine years independence from home. Also the bicycle needs their life. Everyday they go to school or spend their volunteer time. I think it is the most useful item in the novel world. More need than real world.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was nine years old ,I want to receive a trip with my family.Now I think about same thing.I remember my parents were very busy and strict to me.We always stayed home on the weekend because they were very tired and they send me go to learn art or math school.But I was interested in outdoor activities ,like swimming,mountain climbing.It was better than stayed home .

according to me the most recommendation he received was the rule N3:" from this moment you are exampted from rules governing rudeness.You may ask any question of any citizen and you will receive answers." for me this was the most important because by asking he will know many things that he did not understand before.And that give him freedom in the community.Because he is exampted from rules governing rudeness.

ReplyDeleteThe most important of Jonas’ rule like receiver of memory for me is the number 4. “Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parents and Elders”. Because Jonas will learn many things about the history of his community but he will not able to say anything and he has to forget the rules and maybe he will start to lie and he will be different of the other children. The last one is related with the rule number 8. “You may lie” because he learned “the precision of the language was to ensure that unintentional lies were never uttered.” And he started to dude about all people around him. Can you imagine if the Giver lies with the memories? It is a possibility too or not?
I think the most important recommendation was rule No.3 because Jonas can ask anything to anyone and He would be has many experiences through their answering and receiving of memory.

Do you think Jonas is trying to be like the Giver? I also have another question for everyone: If you were Jonas, and you knew all the memories, how would you feel? Would you want to tell everyone in the community about the memories? Or would you want to keep them a secret? :)

Jonas wanted to show Asher the red of the petals of the geraniums planted near the Hall of Open Records, and Jonas wanted to transmit the memory of color red the same form that the Giver does with him. But Asher thought maybe was something wrong when Jonas put his hands on his shoulders.
ReplyDeleteWhit Lily, Jonas tried to give a memory about the elephant bur he hurt her with his hand and don’t remember in which part Jonas put his hand on his father's shoulders. Jonas did that but with Gabriel, when the little baby couldn't sleep and he transmitted him the memory of the sail. He is worry about that because " He was not yet qualified to be a Giver himself: not had Gabriel been selected to be a Receiver".
I think Jonas will be a Giver someday and maybe Gabriel, little baby, a Receiver. Jonas wants to say everybody the true about their world. Now Jonas knows a lot of things about their history and their society. In their development they lost vital things for us. I can't imagine a world without colors, for me would be really boring and maybe the control in my life would be desperate too. In Jonas' world, the right of choice is not individual. The Committee of Elders decides the carrier, husband or wife, the name, the rules, how many children will you have, everything! Then what do people in Jonas Society to decide by themselves? The rules are the same for people that are release? May be not and they are more happy that people in Jonas' Society. I would like to say everyone about the memories, but there are many bad memories, like a war or people without food that is better don't remember and in the Committee of Elders learn of past mistakes and they try don't do again. The capacity to see the colors is a loss skill, maybe this skill could recovery and the people enjoy them. I could keep the secret but I tried to change some rules and give more freedom to decide to everyone.

Because they couldn't see color and something was wrong what they have chosen. so Jonas wanted to realize sensation of color, pain as well as painless to his family.

If I was Jonas ,I will feel I am unlucky to know all the memories and Why me???But I will keep it in my mind .First,Who will believe me?Because I can't prove that and maybe they will think I am crazy and release me.Second,I think is it necessarily to let people know that and can they accept that with happiness or fear ?And the change is good for them? If they are happy in this world why have to change that.If there is a Utopia ,we will not have war and live with peace.But I know it is impossible in the ture world .
I think that Jonas wanted to show them that there are many things out of their world that they don't know and he wanted, of course,to transmit the memories that the Giver transmitted him.But the idea was to share the common past of the community that they ignore.So they coundn't believe except if they can see like Jonas.Because it's impossible for Jonas to explain.

usually, when you have a secret you want to tell eveybody that you possess something ucommon. it; a desire you want to talk. but jonas can't to speak,because it's forbide to tell something about the memories.

ReplyDeleteI think a reason why Jonas did like that act is he think it is unfair. Before the sameness they can choice anithing. He want people to choice somthing from waking up to going to bed.
Jonas know it is againr the rule. but he don't have to do that act. If I were Jonas, maybe I am going to crazy. Even thought I know something, I can't expain, and share with anyone in the community. Since people in the community don't have capacity, I don't want to tell about the memory. I choice as the receiver. Because I have capacity about the memory.

And if I am Jonas, I will keep a secret. Because it's my assingment and the rule is keeping secret and have not to say to other about his memory and training. I agree Jooyeon's opinion. Because once the people who is in community exprience about that. The giver said the people don't want to know about memory. They avoid pain, and they don't want kind of challenge. The people are satisfied their present life.
ReplyDeleteHello everybody I think in this part of the novel Jonas discover to many new thing for him, and it is hard to him to keep the secret or old the memories that he knew. The second part of the questions is if I have the opportunity to tell everybody I do it because I’m thinking that anyone has the power to control another. Also I’m agreed with katerine when she said that jonas will be the Giver and Grabriel a receiver and I think Jonas try to share his memories with everybody because he doesn’t like to lie….

If was Jonas, and I knew all the memories, I think I will fell very good and I will not tell anyone about the memories because I want to get the wisdom and will be very important in the committee .
ReplyDeleteI think the Giver don't talk about his works because he follow the same rules that Jonas. The rule number 4 not mention any exception then the Giver is included in this group.
ReplyDeleteJonas asked the Giver about his work because he doesn't understand why the Giver exist in the community and why his parents said that it is the assignament most important.
Like The Giver, he will not be allowed to talk about his work, not even to his wife; because books are forbidden to citizens, he will not be allowed to share them with anyone. His life will be difficult because of the burden of pain, and he will be extremely lonely.

So i think that's why the Giver did not talk about his work to Jonas.Because he knew that it's not useful to talk about it, Jonas will learn through his training.Jonas asked this question to Giver because he begun to worry about what will be his new job and also he is eager to learn more about it.
ReplyDeleteThe Giver didn't to talk about his work, because jonas will learn all this things during his training. And the giver didn't want to do something early.now jonas is not ready to know a lot of things. but step by step the would explain his work at jonas.

If you were Jonas, what did you do in this situation ?
When I read The Giver, I thought that if I were Jonas, I must feel alone. And It also maked me to live in loneliness. Because just only one person knows about that deep emotion. When Receiver get the memory, two poeple. Think about that you know something truth, but anyone don't take your work. How about your feeling? Even thought they don't catch on at once, I will try to expain that emortion. May be I feel powerless. But they are my family, and if I have willing that I want them realize kind of that emotion, I keep on expressing that emotion.

Hello everyone I think if I’m Jonas I decide to pass the memory of love. In my opinion the love is the most important feeling in the life. I don’t know why but think that Jonas change all the community in the last part of the book….?
ReplyDeleteI will exactly do like Jonas did. Because they are not able to understand what Jonas was talking about. The only way to let them understand the meaning of the word "love" is to transfer the memory of love to them. However this is against his rule. I will do it after that i received all the memories from the Giver.

ReplyDeleteWhen jonas asks his parents if they love him and they laugh .They tell him that the word love is too generalized a word. When I were Jonas I feel the same Jonas’s feel sad because he has experienced love, and love does have meaning for him,

ReplyDeleteIf I was Jonas I will try what is love? I would try to learn more about the love and to find the correctly words to use in the community and explain them. Jonas' parents said that they wanted precision in the idiom and its importance. if Jonas would learn and live the love he could explain what is the love.

If you are Jonnas,what is your reaction to your friends’ game of “war”?
Jonas reaches the playing field, and his groupmates are playing a game which he can now recognize as being a game of war.
ReplyDeleteIn Jonas’ world anybody knows the war. They considered that is an innocent game. Only for Jonas is a cruel game because he knows what is the war. In some form he has lived the war and doesn’t like. If I saw my friends are playing to the war I would have the same reaction that Jonas and tell about why I don´t like that game.

ReplyDeleteFor Jooyeon's question,if i was Jonas I will feel very sad.Because I just recived a beautiful memory and I also looked forward to hear my parents said they love me.But it's so hard to imagine if I was him. Because Jonas was younger than me a lot. So I think he can do nothing.Because he can teach his parents what love is and the rule in his city is not allow people to motion "love" this word.So I think that is why he hate his job, because his job gave him a lot of disappointments.

But I will not to blame them because they know nothing .They just know that is a kind of game.They don't know it was a very bad thing and many people would die.But How to explain to them and Jonas couldn't say anything to his friends.Now,there are war in some countries.But how do we know the real situaction in those countries.When I read this part,I thought I am Jonas's friends.In my country, we don't have war now and many people like to play some games like they are in the war. But I can't judge them because I never be in the war.I know it from book ,TV or internet and I think other people know too.So if I was Jonas ,I think I will say nothing to my friend too.
